WHAT TO DO?

Havelock is a coastal village, dotted with restaurants, cafes, and shops, complete with its very own Museum, Information center, art gallery and outdoor gym located beside the local rugby field, netball courts, and Tennis courts.

More famously recognized as the gateway to the Pelorus Sounds and Green-Shell Mussel capital of the world, Havelock provides an excellent base to set up your next fishing, kayaking, or scenic cruise. Local fishing charters, Water Taxis and Mail boats present immeasurable opportunities to explore just some of the unforgettable features Havelock and its surrounds has to offer.

In town, Havelock is home to a variety of wonderful walking/hiking and biking tracks that showcase some of Havelock’s majestic landscape and wildlife.

  • Waterfall track (1-hour return) features gorgeous flowing waterfalls amongst beautiful native bush, and glow worms at night.

  • Cullen Point track (1-hour return) a loop track that showcases the stunning views of the Pelorus Sounds and Havelock township. There is also an additional short track that takes you to a lookout, with pristine views of the Mahua Sound.

  • Motuweka Pathway (45mins return) takes you through the Havelock estuary featuring our native estuary birds and entrance to the Havelock Marina.

Queens Charlotte Walk-  One of Marlborough's more famous tracks and popular for both bikers and walkers, the Queen Charlotte track is acknowledged for it's stunning coastal and native bush views.

Te Araroa Trail- The Rutherford Backpackers is the perfect base for Te Araroa trail walkers to restock and rejuvenate before taking on the Richmond Alpine track, considered to be Te Araroa's most challenging track.

Pelorus Bridge is a short drive from Havelock, popular for its gorgeous lush green walking tracks, pristine emerald swimming holes and more famously the exact river where “The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug” was filmed by Sir Peter Jackson.

Whether you are planning a day trip, or intend to spend multiple days exploring, you won’t be disappointed in what Havelock has to offer.
